PrinterIn a recent turn of events, a thief gets busted for idiotically calling tech support for a stolen printer. Timothy Scott Short (aka dummy), stole a Digimarc printer from the St. Charles contract office of the Missouri Department of Revenue, more than likely to produce his own fake Missouri ID’s for him and all his buddies, but once he got home to plug it in, he noticed that he didn’t have the required software drivers for the system.

Just then, he ingenuously turned the printer over and noticed the 1-800 tech support number, and being such a smart ass, he called it. Of course, we all use our common sense most of the time, but unfortunately for Timothy, this was not one of those times. So shortly after calling tech support to trouble shoot his software problem, the Secret Service knocks on his door… oh well.

“…if you ever steal a drivers’ license printer, don’t call the manufacturer’s tech support…”

The Secret Service was already investigating Timothy Scott Short for identity theft, so you can imagine how much easier it was to catch him, even more so after slipping up and calling tech support. I sometimes wonder myself, why is it that people do these things? Well, here’s a tip, if you ever steal a drivers’ license printer, don’t call the manufacturer’s tech support asking for assistance, you’ll just be sorry if you did, ending up in prison and looking stupid in the news.
