Apple’s iPhoneIf you are set on getting yourself an iPhone, oh the beautiful warmth you must be feeling inside, full of anticipation. That tingly feeling and smell of a new tech gadget in your life, that with any luck, will help you along the path of being a new person. It must be wonderful to be you and finally feel that slim brick-like sized object in your hands, as you aimlessly fumble your fingers over the iPhone’s slick glass touch-screen - oh the joys of advancement.

But let’s move past the pricing, which must seem to be the steal of the century, and overlook the $200 dollar price cut, that many Apple aficionados must have felt was unfair after waiting endless hours just to be able to say they were the first to purchase it.

Now I was originally going to attack (which I still might do in another article) every essential aspect of the iPhone by writing somewhat of a monolith on the face of cellular horizons, but instead I’ll try to steer away from that and simply try to entice you with a couple of possible and suitable replacements.

As you may know, the iPhone is referred to as “the new milestone in cell phone advancements”, although in my opinion, it’s really just a “flash in the pan” in comparison to the Japanese phone market. But there are currently several makers under the red sun that seem to have some compelling iPhone competitors. Now I won’t go on a limb and call them “iPhone killers”, simply because they aren’t killers, but they’re certainly worth checking out.

Wilcom WS007SH
This Phone with it’s sleek casing and blue screen is the Wilcom WS007SH, and its another of a long list of Mobile Windows, although which version is unclear.

Wacom WX310J
My personal favorite from the Wacom line is the WX310J, it’s not pretty but the fingerprint reader will make security buffs squeal like girls.

Samsung F700
Next on our lineup is the Samsung F700, also known as the CROIX. It’s a very striking black phone with polished metal striping and an unfortunate “iPhonesque” design redo/replay. It also sports a 5 Mega Pixel camera, and has the capacity for holding your MP3. Additionally it features a QWERTY text keyboard that slides out allowing instant messaging with ease, running with dual EDGE and HSPDA.

AAC formats, this too like so many out there, will be able to play your music as if calling someone else isn’t enough.

ASUS_AURA
Another surprising competitor that may also be taking aim at Apple’s iPhone comes from a company named ASUS, with a phone that has been codenamed AURA. And since we’re all so concerned with style, from the looks of it theres a chance that this phone could be the next big thing. Whether or not this phone turns out to be a big hit in our day to day lives and actually make communication simpler, we’ll leave it for now a dream which I hope doesn’t fall short of it’s expectations.

This ultra slick phone also sports a QWERTY keyboard like the CROIX, but the keyboard is super-thin and angles down like a laptop. Featureing a 2 Mega Pixel camera, HSDPA, UMTS, GSM , Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth.

Now that we’ve covered some “would be” opponents, I have to say that the iPhone is indeed becoming a major player of the US phone market. Which I could go as far as to say, that it may very well be the King of phones at the moment. And although I am adamant to be “anti” the-establishment-of-cool which is Apple, I can’t help but be attracted to the iPhone’s glassy glow. So to all of you iPhone owners out there, I celebrate your purchase, unless of course you got it before the price cut.
