AT&T LogoThere’s a rumor going around that AT&T is cutting loose users that trash talk their company. Although this is something that seems ridiculous to me, many customers are taking it very seriously. Making me feel like everyone is somewhat back in school, spreading rumors and elaborating on it each time it passes from one person to another, until it’s turned into this unbelievable and elaborate story. This rumor has spread so rapidly, that within only 24 hours it’s been blown so far out of proportion, that AT&T has released a statement to calm the waters and sooth restless users.

“..within only 24 hours it’s been blown so far out of proportion that AT&T has released a statement..”

“AT&T respects its subscribers’ rights to voice their opinions and concerns over any matter they wish. However, we retain the right to disassociate ourselves from websites and messages explicitly advocating violence, or any message that poses a threat to children (e.g. child pornography or exploitation). We do not terminate customer service solely because a customer speaks negatively about AT&T. This policy is not new and it’s not unique to AT&T.” - AT&T’s Press-release on the matter.

This all started because in the Terms Of Use agreement it stipulates that AT&T can and does reserve the right to disconnect any user’s account if the telco believes said user is utilizing the connection to “damage the name or reputation of AT&T, or its parents, affiliates and subsidiaries.” Naturally any good business needs and does cover themselves from unforeseen liabilities, and this is just that. AT&T is only making sure that they are providing a good service, although I do agree that they seem as if they want to take over the world, but realistically they are simply covering their butts.

I bet this incident really started over someone wanting to switch over to AT&T due to the iPhone, and maybe, just maybe they were a bit ticked off over the whole ordeal that they just had to start something. Hey, my bill came pretty high this month too, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to start a riot against the company. You have to know how to take the good with the bad, and simply make the correct choices on which carrier fits you best. Remember that with every action there’s a reaction, and with every cause there’s an effect.
